Course on Financial Data Analytics and Decision-Making

Course Background
Managers and leaders today are required to navigate a data-rich world where decisions are no longer based on intuition but are based on insights derived from complex data. Appreciating the power of analytics to transform raw data into useful insights has become crucial to succeed in the competitive workplace. Beyond traditional financial roles, these analytical skills are highly coveted in job markets across industries. This course has been designed to enable proactive learners to uncover hidden patterns in financial data, forecast trends, and mitigate risks with greater confidence.

Course Contents
The course has been designed not just around numbers, but around modern approaches to business decisions. The contents will be organized in four interrelated modules:
	•	Financial decisions – Markets & Trading, Asset Management, Corporate Finance, Common size analysis
	•	ABC of analytics – Visualization, Statistics, Time Series Econometrics, Python
	•	Risk Management – Credit risk models, derivatives, VaR, fraud detection
	•	Applications – Stock selection, portfolio construction, insurance

Learning Approach
A healthy mix of instruction/lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice and realistic projects will be maintained for maximizing the value from this course. In an attempt to bring the state-of-the-art to the discussions, the resource persons for the course will be invited from leading institutions and industry.

Tentative Resource Persons
	•	Dushyant Mahadik – over 15 years of experience with top organizations and currently teaching finance at NIT Rourkela
	•	Santosh Bag – expert in financial data analytics for applications in risk management
	•	Dinabandhu Bag – author of Business Analytics (Routledge / Taylor & Francis)
	•	G Mohan – experience spanning IT, eGovernance and strategy

The course will be offered in hybrid (online + offline) mode in two-three well separated sessions per day for allowing participation from students as well as working professionals.
